Financial Report April 2008

Recently, we were contacted by a couple of our supporting churches regarding the effects of the dollar's fall in value.  Below are edited portions of letters I sent to those churches to report on our status financially: 

The fact is, everyone is affected...it is no greater problem for us than for those on the giving end!  We heard from one friend that hadn't fulfilled their commitment for awhile (though a very LITTLE while) that as a realtor he needed prayer on moving houses!

WOMEN'S LIB

We have often been struck by what we perceive to be a "going back in time" ere in Malawi. Connie read a book about the Puritans some time ago that described their circumstances (health, life, death) that sounded so much like Malawi today.

One of the categories of this "going back in time" is in women's place in society, church and the home.  We find ourselves being big on "women's lib" here though we would not have considered ourselves in that camp in the US.  However, the extent of the injustice regarding the treatment of women drives an individual to stand alongside those who would seek to right those wrongs.  I think the problems facing Malawi today are very similar to those of 50-100 years ago in the US.
