SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS WEEK

All of a sudden, Spiritual Emphasis Week was upon us!  I didn't mention it to anyone and realized about mid-way through that I had failed in that regard.

The week is a break from normal classes.  A guest speaker is brought in and we have prayer groups first thing in the morning in our homes, a service with music and speaker at 9 am, tea break, 11 am music service, 11:30 panel discussion, and finally an evening music and speaker service.  For those of us involved in music it was pretty much an all day affair as we rehearsed in the afternoon!  The busiest week of the year by far!

THE MALAWI MIRACLE

They are calling it the Malawi Miracle in Southern California. A young lady, the daughter of the pastor of Whittier Community Church, came to African Bible College to teach at the Academy a couple years ago. She returned and over a period of a year and a half, the leadership of the church became very interested in trying to do something to help the fight for orphans in Malawi. Specifically they were interested in help the cover the costs of building a pediatric unit at ABC’s clinic.

On Christmas Eve of this past year they took up an offering from the 2000 member church to help. This offering came to a total of $500,000! The entire church body was overwhelmed by the various sacrifices the people were making to give any amount to the fund. The largest gift was $25,000, so the half million was raised dollar by dollar.

With the funds there will be a new ward, some money put in trust to help run it, the building of a house for the doctor, and a variety of gifts to other ministries in Malawi to help with the 400,000 orphans.

PRISON PROBLEMS

Every time I return from the prison I tell my family to "never go to prison". Today one of the students spent a fair amount of time talking with a prisoner that looked really awful.
