Croc Fears

We spent some time at Lake Malawi at a house that a friend rented for quite cheap during the last part of our Christmas vacation.  We were enjoying the little beach and little pool that the house has though a bit wary of hippos as we saw one the first day while at the house.

We hadn't seen the hippo for 3 days, but as the children were jumping off rocks into the lake at the edge of the beach I noticed that there was a reedy kind of marsh area just beyond their jumping location.  I went in and asked Malawian that works at the house if there were crocodiles in the area.  He said yes, but that they were around the hilly point just beyond the marsh.  I asked if they come over to this area at all and he said yes, but qualified it with saying only at 2 or 3.  In the afternoon?  No, in the middle of the night.
