Spiritual Emphasis Week

This week begins "spiritual emphasis week" at ABC.  Normally, a pastor from the United States comes and presents a bit of a retreat for the students and staff with services all morning and evening during the week with no classes!  It is a nice break for them. At 8 am we have 14 students come to our house to have tea and pray together and then the services begin.  This year Pastor Bob Botsford is coming from San Diego, CA as the guest speaker.

However, he and his team (music) could not get here until the afternoon of the first day, so we had a graduate from ABC (local pastor) preach during the service.  It was a study in how the scriptures came to the early church.  What I mean by that was as you read Hebrews (what I have been studying lately) you can't fail to note that for nearly 3 chapters the writer talks about angels and their relationship to Christ.  For us Americans in the 21st Century it is a little strange.  We have to work hard at understanding what was happening in the churches he was writing to in order to understand what he was speaking to specifically under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Felix spoke to the Malawian church very powerfully this morning.  He dealt with many issues they face as Malawians that we just do not deal with in our Western context: witchcraft, extended family expecting to be supported by their college degree,  particular drive to parachurch organizations for spiritual renewal, etc.
