2009 Beginner Band

African Bible College accepted over 100 new students this year, twice the usual number.  There are two purposes; greater impact on Malawi and more funding for the college in these tough economic times.  There have been many difficulties with having this large number - classroom size and housing.  However, from a band director's standpoint, it is nice - more musicians!

I figured that, since the percentage of the freshman classes to take beginning band has always been right at about 60%, I would be fine with the expected 80 new students.

However, there were 85 that showed up AND the percentage of registered beginners rose to over 75% this year - 65 total!  We are using nearly every instrument we have.  I have explained to them that they CANNOT break an instrument or it is over for them!

In order to start all these beginners I am having the advanced band members working with them.  Janelle and Shea are called the other "Professor Dehnerts"!  The students enjoy having a 14 and an 11 year old teaching them.

Please pray that we can get these students off to a good start!
