US TOUR

2 weeks ago Connie had my Jazz Combo for coffee and announced that ABC is sending us on an outreach tour to the United States in April!  They were rather beside themselves with excitement.  None of them have been to the US, though one has been to Scotland.

However, the hurdles to prepare for such a feat are numerous - particularly dealing with Malawian passports!  To get passports they have to travel to their home village (where their family is from even if they never lived there) to get their chief's signature that they are who they say they are.  Then to their District Commissioner in the same area for his signature. Then to the Immigration office here in Lilongwe to apply for the passport.  Unfortunately they may be canceling all prior passports in November because of all the false ones out there.  So, we are hoping the students go through and don't get cancelled at the same time!  There is no "expedited" service here.

Please be praying about opportunities for the group to perform.  We are planning to tour in Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama.  President Paul Chinchen and I believe one of the best ways of presenting ABC is by bringing Africa to Americans in music.

The combo is extremely diverse in music styles, but we hope to present a great deal of African music to congregations.  We hope to perform in worship services, house concerts, dinners and whatever over a 2 ½ week tour.  If you know anyone in those states that may be interested please let them know to contact me.
